Best Google Drive Add-Ons for Education, Google+ Profile Discoverability and more

Last week was a busy and exciting one for us here at AppsEvents as we prepared for the Vermont Google in Education summit. We would like to thank all our summit delegates, speakers, and sponsors for making the event possible. We hope to see you again next year!

Here are some great resource links and videos shared by our Google+ community members last week.

Google Drive has enabled Google Add Ons and there are some that you and your students will want to enable right away. Others may appeal more to professional developers or those who work remotely.

Google Slides and Drawings make it easy for you to tell a story and share your ideas. And a big part of storytelling is the images you use to bring a concept to life. Now it’s even easier to get those images just right, because Slides will let you crop, apply shape masks, and add borders to your images right within your presentation.

“Google Geo really wants feedback from educators on their tools for education. Please provide input and share with others as it will guide their product development and available features for schools.” via +Julene Reed

Google Forms a teacher/student connection

In this very inspiring video, Kettle-Moraine High School teacher Ms. Kornowski finds a way of connecting with her students to build meaningful relationships with them.

Another great share from +Allison Mollica.

Way of a Warrant

Requests for user information from governments around the world are up 120 percent since 2009: http://goo.gl/11v9LP. Often these requests come in the form of a warrant from a government agency in the U.S.—here’s a video showing how we protect users’ information from excessive requests, while also following the law.

Top Discussion

“Here’s a question.  How do I avoid this, if possible, and what do others do in this situationor is this the following example a feature request for Google to ponder?…… Situation:  I’ve created a folder I share with my students, giving them the ability to edit; however, I have found that students have been accidentally moving items out of the folder (and into their own drive) making life annoying for others who needed to access this file and who don’t see the file anymore because someone moved it out.  Is there a way, or should there be, to allow students to edit documents, but LOCK the file from moving?  I know I could not give them editing rights, but then this defeats the purpose of collaboration on a document.  Or am I missing something???” – posted by +Shawn Skalinski
